#EdoDecides2024: ‘PDP Won’t Get a Single Vote in My Polling Unit’– Okpebholo Asserts
Sen.Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the ongoing Edo governorship election, has confidently declared that his rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), will not secure a single vote at his polling unit.
Speaking after casting his vote at Unit 03, Ward 1, Uwessan, Esan Central Local Government Area, Okpebholo stated, “PDP or whatever will not get one vote here because this is my home, and my people love me.”
Okpebholo praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for their handling of the election, saying, “What I’m seeing here is like a testimony that INEC is getting it right.”
In response to questions about the security situation during the election, the APC candidate dismissed concerns, calling them overblown. “Everything they are saying about security – this, that – is ‘hyping’. Nothing is happening. You can see! Nobody is fighting, no disturbance. It’s just an attempt to scare people from voting,” he remarked.
He further criticized Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration, alleging an attempt to destabilize the state ahead of the election, but praised the peaceful process so far, crediting divine intervention.
APC Refutes Disqualification Rumors
On the eve of the election, the APC issued a statement affirming Okpebholo’s candidacy after rumors circulated suggesting he had been disqualified by a magistrate’s court. Felix Morka, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, dismissed the claims as fake news, accusing opposing parties of engaging in disinformation tactics.
“The blackmail is to the extent of circulating a fake magistrate court ruling purportedly disqualifying Senator Okpebholo,” Morka said, clarifying that the ruling was fabricated and aimed at creating doubt ahead of the election.
Morka called on law enforcement agencies to investigate those behind the forgery and ensure they are held accountable for attempting to subvert the will of Edo voters.
