JUST IN: APC Declares Edo Governorship Primary Inconclusive

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially declared the governorship primary election in Edo State inconclusive, following the controversies that surrounded last Saturday’s polls.

The announcement was made by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Morka, after an emergency meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) at the party secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday.

The primary election, held on February 17, resulted in three different candidates being declared winners. Dennis Idahosa was announced by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Governor Hope Uzodimma, while the returning officer, Stanley Ugboaja, declared Monday Okpebholo as the winner. An additional declaration by Ojo Babatunde, claiming to represent returning officers in all local governments, named Anamero Dekeri as the victor.

Amidst the confusion, both Dekeri and Okpebholo appealed to the party’s appeal committee for their certificates of return. Another aspirant, Prof Oserheimen Osunbor, vehemently insisted on Tuesday that no election took place in the state, contradicting the announced results.

Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, addressed journalists in Abuja, stating, “The National Working Committee of our party deliberated and resolved that the governorship primary election has not been completed.” He further revealed that the process would resume on Thursday, February 22, to conclude the APC Edo State primary election.

Notably, the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, had earlier congratulated Dennis Idahosa on his emergence as the party’s candidate. However, the exact reasons behind the NWC’s decision to declare the primary inconclusive remain unclear as of the latest press time.
