JUST IN: President Hage Geingob of Namibia is Dead
Namibia’s third president, Hage Geingob, has passed away at the age of 82, as confirmed by Vice President Nangolo Mbumba.
President Geingob, who took office in 2015 and was serving his second term, breathed his last in a Windhoek hospital on Saturday morning, surrounded by his wife and children. Having previously served as the country’s first prime minister from 1990 to 2002 under President Sam Nujoma, Geingob leaves behind a legacy of dedicated service to Namibia.
The late president had been facing health challenges, and on January 8, 2024, he publicly disclosed his battle with cancer. Seeking treatment in the United States, he underwent a two-day cancer treatment, returning to Namibia on January 30. Despite the efforts, President Geingob’s health declined, leading to his unfortunate demise.
