JUST IN: Rivers State Education Commissioner Resigns Citing “Unhealthy ” Work Environment among others.
Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Professor Prince Chinedu Mmom, has tendered his resignation from the State Executive Council, citing a “toxic” working environment as the primary reason for his departure. The resignation, dated May 15, 2024.
In his resignation letter, Professor Mmom expressed concern that the current atmosphere within the government would hinder his ability to achieve his goals for the education sector in the state. He lamented the presence of “loss of trust, animosity, and sharp division” among colleagues, describing it as unhealthy and unfortunate.
Although he thanked Governor Siminalayi Fubara for the opportunity to serve in his administration, Professor Mmom made it clear that the working conditions had become untenable for him to continue effectively in his role.
This isn’t the first time Professor Mmom has parted ways with the government. He was previously among the Commissioners who resigned during a political crisis in the state, only to return later. However, his loyalty has been openly aligned with former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
The resignation of Professor Mmom adds to the ongoing turbulence within the Rivers State government, highlighting deeper rifts and challenges within the administration.
