The Emirs are, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku of Zurmi Emirate and Alhaji Hussaini Umar of Dansadau Emirate were arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Gusai, Zamfara State capital on Thursday.

Upon intelligence gathered by Zamfara State government that they were heavily involved in banditry business, the State governor suspended them.

After suspension, the two Emirs were detained in Government House for several months.

HeraldersTimes learnt that their arraignment in Magistrate Court on Friday was not unconnected to series of pressure from Human Right community, who insisted that they should be tried in Court.

The Counsel to the defendants, Barr Ahmad Kotorkoshi of PM Lasco Chambers, said, “the government was not able to arraign the two emirs for obvious security reasons.”

There was a mild drama during their arraignment as the presiding Judge was not in the court, a situation that led to an agreement between the counsel to the plaintiff and that of the defendants.

Zamfara State governor, Alhaji Mohammed Matawalle has insisted that some prominent people in the State are involved in aiding and abetting banditry activities in Zamfara State.
