Minimum Wage: Committee Holds First Meeting Following Inauguration.

The 37-member National Minimum Wage Committee has swiftly swung into action, holding its inaugural meeting at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja. The meeting followed the official inauguration of the committee by Vice President Kashim Shettima, fulfilling a promise made by President Bola Tinubu.

The Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the committee’s first meeting through a statement. He commended Vice President Shettima for promptly inaugurating the committee and highlighted the presence of six governors among the committee members.

In his statement, Onanuga wrote, “Promise kept: Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurates the 37-man National Minimum Wage Committee in Abuja. The committee members, among whom are six governors, held their first meeting at the State House Banquet Hall.”

The committee, representing diverse sectors including the Federal Government, State Government, Private Sector, and Organized Labour, is tasked with deliberating on the new minimum wage. The comprehensive membership includes key figures from various regions, industries, and labor unions.

The meeting signifies a proactive approach to addressing the crucial issue of the minimum wage, reflecting the commitment of the committee to finding equitable solutions that consider the perspectives of all stakeholders.
