Nyesom Wike Orders Demolition of Prominent Abuja Market.
The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued an order for the demolition of the renowned COVID-19 market situated in Area 11, Abuja.
During the demolition of makeshift stores within the market, Osi Braimah, the Director of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB), revealed this directive to journalists.
According to Braimah, the removal of shanties and unauthorized settlements in Area 11 and various parts of the city is aimed at tackling the persistent security challenges faced by residents.
Braimah elaborated on the ongoing exercise carried out by several agencies of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). He emphasized that AEPB, acting upon a directive from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, is intensifying the demolition of shanties, illegal settlements, and squatter camps within the FCT.
“This initiative has been underway for a considerable period, with the primary objective being to enhance city cleanliness and address the accompanying issue of insecurity,” he stated.
The demolition of the COVID-19 market and related actions align with efforts to enhance public safety and urban sanitation in the nation’s capital.
