POLITICS: Exodus Transition Looms; As over 60 PDP lawmakers Demand Removal of Acting National Chairman

Apparently, over 60 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) within the House of Representatives have signaled their intent to defect from the party amidst escalating crises within Rivers State and ten other chapters.

The bold declaration came during a press conference held at the esteemed National Assembly complex in Abuja on Monday. Led by Ikenga Ugochinyere, a notable representative from Imo State, along with five other colleagues, the lawmakers expressed their deep-seated concerns over the current state of affairs within the PDP.

Central to their demands is the immediate removal of the Acting National Chairman of the party, Umar Damagum, prior to the much-anticipated National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, now rescheduled.

Speaking passionately on behalf of the dissenting faction, Mr. Ugochinyere emphasized their firm stance against any perceived infiltration of the PDP by officials aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC). He vehemently asserted, “PDP cannot be surrendered to the APC. The emergence of APC-affiliated officers within our party’s ranks, particularly in Rivers State and the ten other states, reeks of an insidious agenda.”

The lawmakers further elucidated that the purported imposition of APC-centric figures as caretaker members within the PDP serves as a harbinger of a more sinister plot orchestrated to subvert the party’s core values.
