Rivers Assembly Renews Threat of Impeachment Against Governor Fubara

The Rivers State House of Assembly has signaled its readiness to reignite impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. This announcement came during a media briefing held in Port Harcourt on Saturday, spearheaded by the House Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, alongside 26 fellow legislators, who levied accusations of dishonesty against the governor.

The assembly members pointedly criticized Governor Fubara for allegedly reneging on commitments outlined in the Presidential Peace Accord, a pact he willingly endorsed without any external coercion. Despite withdrawing a previous impeachment notice as a gesture of deference to President Bola Tinubu and in hopeful anticipation of a change in the governor’s stance, the lawmakers underscored their resolve to uphold constitutional principles.

Moreover, the legislators, staunch supporters of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, took aim at the Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, led by Dr. Abiye Sekibo, for recent disparaging remarks directed at Wike.
