Rivers Election Saga: INEC Blocks Voters’ Register as Court Rejects Fubara’s Appeal

The Court of Appeal has refused to grant a Stay of Execution order sought by Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara regarding the upcoming local government elections set for October 5th.

In a further blow to the election process, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed it will not provide the voters’ register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

The HeraldersTimes correspondence in Port Harcourt had gathered that, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Johnson Alalibo, explained that INEC is complying with a Federal High Court order from Abuja that restrains the release of the register.

He clarified that while RSIEC had requested the register, the court order was issued before the process could be completed. The register, he added, remains with INEC’s ICT department.

Despite viral claims to the contrary, this official statement finally clears up any speculation about INEC’s involvement in the controversial elections. Perhaps those on social media who were so eager to share half-baked theories should sit this one out.
